Do you have a family member with type 1 diabetes? You may qualify for risk screening through the Pathway to Prevention Study.

About The Screening

Family members of people with type 1 diabetes are at a 15x greater risk of developing T1D. With a simple blood test, TrialNet looks for diabetes-related markers that can predict your risk years before symptoms appear and determine if you are potentially eligible for a prevention trial.

Participants who test positive for diabetes-related markers receive close monitoring. Screening also provides an opportunity to participate in research that aims to prevent disease progression. Their risk of being diagnosed in diabetic ketoacidosis decreases from 30% to less than 4%.

Who can get screened?

  • Have a parent, sibling, or child with type 1 diabetes and are between ages 2 and 45

          OR

  • Have a grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin, niece, nephew, or half sibling with type 1 diabetes and are between ages 2 and 20
